The only opposition: 8 July, no flags

Here we are. We are starting another important week in parliament. A week in which we are starting to talk in the Chamber of Deputies about security laws, among which there’s the law that allows our Prime Minister to get away scot-free and I’m going to start the discussion talking about him.
You’ll say to me: But are you always talking about this? No. I don’t want to talk about this all the time. In Parliament I would like to discuss employment, work, welfare, health, institutional reform, basically about all those things that were in the election manifestos of all the parties. However, unfortunately I can’t talk about other things because in the parliamentary agenda there’s only this stuff, that is it’s just him that is taking things on and then he says: “You mustn’t talk about this otherwise you are anti-berlusconian.” But don’t think about just doing laws for yourself. Do laws for us and we will talk about other stuff.
I want to talk about Alitalia. But on Alitalia he said that in three days he would sort it all out and that it was a mistake to give it to Air France and now we discover that instead, there is no one, none of the potential buyers, not even his sons, and that instead we have had to pay out 300 million straight away. In relation to this, followers of the Lega, you who have voted for the Lega, you said that there’s no need to throw away money into the Roman pot, but these 300 million, who is going to pay them back? It’s always for you to pay back.
And so , this is what I wanted to say: we have to deal with these topics. And we will deal with them. How? Inside Parliament, straight away, this week on an issue of overlapping interests. We believe that the law suspending all trials for a year is unconstitutional and that even more unconstitutional is the law that Berlusconi the day before yesterday has had passed by the Council of Ministers, or by his Board of Directors, you choose, to say that the trials relating to himself cannot be done. We will do this not just with reference to being the Opposition in Parliament. We will do it trying to keep the citizens in the streets, informed as much as possible.
On 8 July, there’s the first useful appointment, starting at 6pm in piazza Navona and in relation to this, allow me to send an important message. I’m saying this because in a national newspaper, in l’Unità, there’s an in-depth article by Dott.Andrioli, a person that I always read as I respect him a lot. And he says: “Watch out, it’s necessary to block at birth every polemical counter-position, whether it’s just creeping in, on who is doing the strongest opposition. This is a realistic objective as long as the PD isn’t looking at what is appearing outside the boundaries and turning up their nose, and as long as the organisers of 8 July make it clear that in Piazza Navona polemics will not prevail in such a way that so many PD sympathisers are not obliged to participate in a demonstration against their party.”
OK, I’m one of the organisers of the 8 July demonstration and I can say straight away: on the stage we will not be flying any party flag. This demonstration is not the property of any particular party, not even, God forbid, of Italia dei Valori. It’s a demonstration open to everyone, to PD voters, to the discontented voters of the PDL, to those who did not go to vote, to all those who can see that there is a fraud making using of the institutions for the aims of an individual, and as it is necessary to send a message to those who govern not to take advantage.
